Allegra makes her role debut as Oscar, the king’s page, in Verdi’s sumptuously scored opera about love, trust, fate, and (of course) murder.
A conflicted king, Riccardo, receives a troubling prophesy from the fortune reader, Ulrica, which may or may not lead to his ultimate demise. Of course… it’s not quite that simple, given that the king is secretly in love with his best friend Renato’s wife, Amelia, and burgeoning tensions between Riccardo and his court are heightened by the ubiquitous presence of his pageboy, Oscar, who’s become practically a seneschal to the king for reasons no one can quite fathom. And… it might help if the king took the prophesy about his imminent murder a little more seriously.
Curious to know more? Allegra will be in three performances between May 24th and the 31st. Come see the opera and discover how the story ends!
While not among Verdi’s best-known (or least-known) operas, Ballo features many of the composer’s trademarks, not the least of which is the beautiful chorus music interspersed throughout the work.
